Elements and Performance Criteria

- Establish the shoreline response unit
- Deploy appropriate staff to assist in the clean up response, in accordance with organisational procedures
- Implement a site induction that incorporates safe systems of work, communication methods, hierarchy of roles and reporting systems used within the incident management system
- Identify any training that may need to be implemented
- Plan clean up operations
- Establish priorities for shoreline protection and clean up based on data and reports received
- Sector and segment shoreline for identification and management of clean up zone
- Implement clean up methods appropriate to environmental conditions
- Make arrangements for the transport of resources and personnel to oiled shoreline clean up site
- Establish onsite support for personnel, in accordance with organisational procedures
- Establish worksite management zones
- Organise appropriate security for oiled shoreline and incident control centre
- Establish a decontamination centre
- Manage waste from clean up
- Establish temporary waste holding areas that allow for safe containment and appropriate segregation of waste
- Arrange for the removal of waste from temporary to permanent storage, in accordance with relevant legislation
- Deploy and monitor work teams
- Brief teams and allocate tasks relating to relevant timeframe and role to be performed
- Monitor work situation on a regular basis for effectiveness and safety performance of task
- Maintain accurate logs to record actions and decisions made at site
- Review and change plans, as required, in accordance with organisational procedures
- Equipment is returned to designated areas, as required
- Post spill reports are completed and submitted to relevant personnel
- Records are collected, collated, checked and forwarded to appropriate personnel, in accordance with organisational procedures
